Gallimore, Yates, Pang Earn Pac-12 Awards
November 13, 2019 | Women's Soccer
SAN FRANCISCO - The Pac-12 Conference announced its end-of-the-year awards, with three Huskies earning honors. Lesle Gallimore was named the Pac-12's Coach of the Year. Summer Yates earned All-Pac-12 Second Team honors, while Kaylene Pang earned a place on the All-Pac-12 Third Team. This is the first time since 2016 that Washington has earned multiple All-Pac-12 awards.
Gallimore's Coach of the Year award is the second of her career, having also earned the honor after winning the Pac-12 in 2000. After being picked to finish tenth in the conference in the preseason poll, the Huskies finished 11-6-2 overall and 7-4-0 in Pac-12 play, taking third place. It was the second-most Pac-12 wins in program history for the Huskies.
Gallimore, in her final season at Washington, is just the fourth coach to ever win multiple Coach of the Year awards from the Pac-12. She joins Paul Ratcliffe, Jillian Ellis, Dan Tobias, and Jim Millinder in that honor.
For Yates, the All-Pac-12 selection is the first of her career. It comes after the sophomore had the highest-scoring season by a Husky since 2014, leading the team with 22 points. No sophomore has ever scored more in a single year than Yates, who surpassed the previous record of 19 points, set by Shannon Simon. In Pac-12 play, Yates recorded ten points, the first Husky with double-digit points in conference play since Sarah Martinez in 2011. Against ranked opponents, Yates has five goals and two assists in eight games.
Pang's All-Pac-12 award is also the first of her career. She has played every minute of the season in central defense, the only Husky to have not rested this year. Pang last sat in 2017, when she came off the bench against Washington State. That was also the last time she did not start for Washington, drawing 38 consecutive starts over the last two years. This year, Pang helped Washington record eight shutouts. Only four opponents scored multiple goals against the Huskies all year.
Washington's postseason journey begins this Saturday as the Huskies host the Seattle U Redhawks at 6:00 pm. Tickets for that match are available online.
