Husky Crosstown Derby Comes To The Postseason
November 12, 2019 | Women's Soccer
SEATTLE - For the first time since 2014, the Washington Huskies will host the NCAA Tournament. Washington will face crosstown rival Seattle U on Saturday at 6:00 pm in the first round of the tournament.
The Huskies finished the 2019 regular season tied for third in the Pac-12, their best finish in the conference since 2008. Washington earned a #4 seed in the tournament for its impressive regular season and faces WAC champion Seattle U in the 15th matchup of the crosstown derby. Washington is undefeated against Seattle U, going 13-0-1 all-time. That one tie came earlier this year, a 0-0 draw in August.
This will be Washington's fourth straight game at home. Last week, Washington ended the regular season with a big win over Washington State in the Boeing Apple Cup Series, its seventh Pac-12 win of the year. That total is the second-most regular season wins in Washington history, behind 2008's 8-1-0 record that won the conference.

THE BIG 2-0 | |
| Summer Yates became the highest-scoring Husky since 2012 with a goal against Washington State. Yates has 22 points, the most since Lindsay Elston had 25 in 2012. No sophomore has ever had more points in a single season than Yates: the previous high for a sophomore was 19, scored by Shannon Simon in 2015. This is the 13th time in Husky history a player has broken the 20-point barrier in a single season. | ||

AFTER THE PARTY IS THE POSTSEASON PARTY | |
| Washington is in the postseason for the 15th time in Lesle Gallimore's 26 seasons as head coach. The Huskies have advanced to at least the second round nine times during Gallimore's tenure, twice making the Elite Eight, in 2004 and 2010. All-time, Washington is 13-12-2 in the postseason. The last time Washington won a postseason game was also the last time it hosted: in 2014, when the Huskies beat Rider and Missouri at home before falling to #3 Stanford in the Sweet Sixteen. | ||

SISI? YES YES | |
| Siena Ruelas earned her fourth shutout of the season against #24 Washington State, matching her total from 2018 in six fewer games. Ruelas has set career highs in every category this year despite playing fewer games. She has a chance to be just the eighth Husky keeper ever to record a GAA under 1.00 in a season. Only five other Husky keepers have ever had a save percentage over .800 in a single season: Sarah Shimer (2017), Megan Kufeld (2013), Kari Davidson (2012), Jorde LaFontaine-Kussman (2010), and Hope Solo (2000, 2001). | ||
