
Dawgs to Host Edean Ihlanfeldt at Sahalee

SEATTLE, Wash. – The Washington women's golf team continues its fall slate this week hosting the annual Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational this Tuesday-Wednesday. The two-day, 54-hole tournament will be competed at the par-72, 5,980 yard Sahalee Country Club, Oct. 8-9 with 36 holes on day one followed by 18 on Wednesday.
THE FIELD: Washington, Nebraska, UC Davis, Seattle, BYU, Cal Poly, Idaho, Long Beach State, San Francisco, Sacramento State and Rutgers.
THE LINEUP: Competing for the Huskies will be sophomore Martha Lewis, junior Rino Sasaki, senior Karen Miyamoto, freshman Winnie Ng and freshman Brittany Kwon. Additionally, senior Alice Duan, junior Wenyan Ma and freshman Manhua Chen will be competing as individuals.
COUGAR CUP WIN: The Huskies opened the 2019-20 season at the Cougar Cup Classic in Pullman and brought home some hardware as senior Karen Miyamoto won her first collegiate individual title. The senior recorded a career-best 9-under 207 (69-70-69). Her score was the second-best ever at the Cougar Cup. As a team the Huskies finished tied for third overall with a 10-under 854 (287-286-281). Junior Rino Sasaki also recorded a top 15 finish as she tied for 13th at 2-under 214 (74-72-68). Joining her those two in the top 25 was freshman Brittany Kwon who tied for 22nd at 1-over 217.
WHAT'S BACK: The Huskies lost three of their five in the main rotation from the last four years as they graduated Sarah Rhee, Julianne Alvarez and Wenyung Keh. Returning for the Dawgs is junior Rino Sasaki, senior Alice Duan and senior Karen Miyamoto who saw significant rotation in last year's lineup. Sasaki played in all 12 events and finished second on the team in stroke average along with posting three top 10 finishes. She led the Dawgs at the NCAA Regionals finishing tied for second overall. Duan, who was new to the squad last season after transferring to UW, also competed in all 12 events, with two top 10 showings, while Miyamoto was a part of the lineup in seven events.
LAST SEASON: The Huskies concluded their 2018-19 season at the NCAA Championships, which marked their third appearance there in the last four seasons. UW finished 18th, not advancing to match play but continuing to make their presence known on the national scene. Washington posted a second-place finish at the NCAA Regionals hosted at one of their home courses and added two tournament wins, eight top five efforts during the season.
WHO'S NEW: Washington welcomes a trio of freshman this season in local standout Brittany Kwon, Winnie Ng and Wendy Chen. Kwon comes to Seattle from just down the road at Central Kitsap High School. Ng is from Kuala Lumpur and most recently is arriving at Montlake from Cempaka International Ladies College while Chen joins the squad from Montverde Academy in Florida but is originally from Dongguan, China.

They stay in the Pacific Northwest for their next event, heading down I-5 to Portland for the Molly Collegiate, Sept. 30-Oct. 1. Once again, the Huskies will host the annual Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Oct. 8-9 before heading to Kentucky for the Cardinal Cup hosted by the University of Louisville, Oct. 18-20. Washington closes the fall campaign at the annual Pac-12 Preview hosted by Hawai'i at Nanea Golf Club in Kona.
