Huskies In Second After Opening Round of Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational

SAMMAMISH, Wash. - The University of Washington women's golf team teed off in the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational Tuesday and sits in second heading into Wednesday's final round. The Huskies are at 16-over 304 after their first round. Tuesday's scheduled second round was moved to Wednesday, while the third round was cancelled due to poor weather after multiple rain delays.
"It was a tough day and we didn't play particularly well," said head coach Mary Lou Mulflur. "It was tough both on and off the course. We started to gain some momentum before they called us off for the first rain delay. We had some birdies and people starting to pick it up, but we couldn't hold on to that momentum unfortunately."
Four Dawgs finished the day tied for 14th, including Brittany Kwan, Winnie Ng, Rino Sasaki, and Karen Miyamoto at 4-over 72. Ng finished the day with four birdies, tied for the most on the course after round one.
"Early on in the day, Winnie was three over after three holes," said Mulflur. "But after the entire round, she finished only four holes over. It was really a solid performance from her. She's seen the course the least of anyone on this team, and I'm really pleased with how she finished the day."
Kwan, Sasaki, and Miyamoto also posted solid outings that kept the Huskies in a position to win the tournament heading into the final round. Martha Lewis rounded out the competition for UW, finishing tied for 28th at 6-over 72.
"It was a frustrating first day of play," said Mulfur. "But the conditions were tough and they were all working really hard. We have to get back after it tomorrow, rebound, and come out and make some putts."
The Huskies continue play at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational on Wednesday in Sammamish, teeing off at 8:40 a.m. alongside Rutgers and UC Davis.
