Washington Falls 3-0 In Pac-12 Opener At #3 USC
September 22, 2018 | Women's Soccer
LOS ANGELES โ Possession alone wasn't enough to get Washington the win Saturday, as the Huskies fell 3-0 to the #3 USC Trojans on the road. Washington controlled the ball for most of the first half and put the pressure on in the extended midfield battles of the second half, but three quick attacks by the Trojans sealed the game.
The loss puts Washington's record at 5-3-1 on the year. Siena Ruelas, who made four saves in the match but took the loss, also sees her record go to 5-3-1. This was only the second time in Ruelas' career she has allowed multiple goals in a regulation match, both coming against top-ten teams.
"I thought we came out and played hard in chunks of the game," said Lesleย Gallimore. "We're most disappointed in our energy and effort to fight harder at the outset of the second half when we were in it and the game was still there."
Six different Huskies had shots in the game but Washington could not find a goal. This was the first time this season that Washington has been shut out: the Huskies had scored multiple goals in each of the last three matches.
