
Washington Back To Northwest For Two Games

SEATTLE – After a week in Florida, the Washington Huskies return to familiar turf for their home opener this week. Washington will take on Cal State Fullerton on Friday, August 24 at 5:00 pm in their first home action of the year. After that, it's back on the road for a matchup with the Portland Pilots on Sunday, August 26 at 5:00 pm.

FRESHMAN FINISHING | |
Ruby Hellstrom scored the Huskies' first goal of the season, pushing it home at #7 Florida to give the Huskies a lead ten minutes into the freshman's first career appearance. Only one other freshman has scored Washington's first goal of the season since 1999: Sarah Dougherty did so at Penn State in 2005. |

SISI SAYS NO-NO | |
Siena Ruelas made seven saves in her first career start at #7 Florida. That save total was the most in a Husky goalkeeper's career debut since Hope Solo also made seven in 1999 against #10 Clemson. Solo is also the last Husky goalkeeper to make their career debut against a team ranked in the nation's top ten. |

GETTING THEIR FEET WET | |
Four different Huskies made their collegiate debuts at #7 Florida. Summer Yates and Ruelas each started the game, with Makena Carr and Hellstrom coming off the bench. In addition to those four, Kennedy Smith, Mireya Grey, Kaylene Pang, and Jessika Cowart all made their first career starts. |

LAST WEEK | |
The Huskies began the week with a big exhibition win, taking down the USF Bulls 4-1 in Tampa. Sianna Siemonsma and Kennedy Smith combined for two goals, which each earning an assist on the others' goal. Lisa Jensen and Jessika Cowart also scored in that exhibition. In the regular season debut, the Huskies jumped out to a first-half lead thanks to Jensen and Hellstrom. Hellstrom's first career goal came off a corner, with Jensen pushing the ball toward goal where the freshman redirected it home. Two late second-half goals by Florida flipped the game, with UW taking the loss. |
