SEATTLE - Once again, the Huskies (28-22, 18-9 Pac-12) finds themselves in a do-or-die series for their post-season lives. This week, they face a daunting test in the form of the No. 3 Stanford Cardinal (43-8, 21-6).
Currently, the Huskies are at a RPI of 71, which no team has ever earned an at-large bid from the NCAA committee. But, in their favor, no Pac-12 team eligible for the post-season with 18 Conference wins has been left out of post-season.
The Huskies also have a path to the Pac-12 Championship. They would need to sweep Stanford this weekend and need UCLA to win at least one game on the road at Oregon State.
Stanford needs to just win one game to clinch the Pac-12 title.
The Pac-12 Network will air all the action from the park with J.B. Long and JT Snow providing the commentary. Constant game updates will be tweeted by @UW_Baseball and fans can find all links at GoHuskies.com.
LAST WEEK
The Huskies started last week off by dropping a 6-4 decision to Portland. They trailed at one point 6-1, thanks to a grand slam home run, and fell short in their rally in which they had the tying run on base in the seventh and eight innings ... Washington bounced back by sweeping Utah, a series in which they never trailed. Lucas Knowles pitched strong in GM 1, going 6.2 IP, leading 5-1 into the 7th. In game 2, Joe DeMers pitched a six-hit, complete game and Joe Wainhouse was 3-for-5 with 3 RBI and his 13th HR in UW's 7-2 win. UW won a barn-burner in the finale, 13-7, pounding out a season-high 20 hits. Levi Jordan had four hit, one of four Huskies to have three-or-more hits on the day.
SERIES HISTORY VS. STANFORD
Stanford holds the all-time series advantage 56-29 over Washington. Stanford swept the series in Palo Alto last year, to stop a streak of three-straight series wins by the Huskies. The last two times in Seattle, UW has won each of the series, 2-1. Last time at Husky Ballpark, UW won game one 4-3, lost game two 8-7 in 12 innings and won the finale, 4-0. Under the direction of Lindsay Meggs, the Huskies are 12-12 against the Cardinal, which is impressive, considering UW was 2-7 against Stanford in the team's first three matchups. The first time these two teams met was in 1912. UW won two of three in that series and were 5-4 overall in that season.
TEAM NOTES:
• The Huskies will honor five seniors before Saturday's regular-season home finale: KJ Brady, Alex Hardy, Levi Jordan, Channing Nesbitt and Joe Wainhouse will all be recognized prior to Saturday's first pitch.
• The Huskies, and bats in particular, have heated up in the month of May. UW has an 8-3 record and is hitting .312 (123x394) with 13 home runs, 72 RBI and averaging 6.9 runs per game.
