SERIES HISTORY VS. GONZAGA
Washington leads the series 79-60. The two teams have split each of the last two two-games series in 2017 and 2016, but UW had won four-straight games previously. The last meeting between the two teams was March 22, 2017 in Spokane where the Huskies blew a two-run lead in the 9th inning and lost, 8-7. The Huskies won the first game of the series, 5-4, scoring 3 runs in the 9th inning to erase a 4-2 deficit. The Bulldogs swept a two-game series in 2013 in Seattle, marking the last time they won a series vs. the Huskies. The two teams first met in 1901, the first year of UW baseball and theHuskies won 15-14. That was the Huskies first win in program history.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES:
• Joe DeMers has thrown two shutouts this year. It's pretty rare in recent Husky history for a player to throw a complete-game shutout, let alone twice in the same season. The only players over the last 20 years to throw a pair of shutouts in the same year are Jacob Clem (2011), Tim Lincecum (2006) and Shawn Kohn (2001). John Martin (1980) is the last Husky to throw three shutouts in the same season.
TEAM NOTES:
• Bullpen Note: The Huskies' bullpen has stranded 16 of 67 inherited runners this season (.762). For the season, the bullpen has an 8-5 record and 3.68 ERA in 100.1 innings.
• Freshman Contributions: Four different UW freshmen position players have played in at least 20 games -- each making double figure starts. Braiden Ward (25 G/19 GS), Noah Hsue (24/17), Jonathan Schiffer (21/15) and Kaiser Weiss (25/12) have shined on the field while also gaining valuable experience. On the hill, five different freshmen have also appeared in multiple games with Stevie Emanuels (14 G) and Lucas Knowles (12) reaching double-digits and Jacob Lamb (9) almost there.
• Unearned Note: In 2017, the Huskies allowed 14 unearned runs over 54 games. In 28 games in 2018, they have allowed 25 unearned runs. UW has committed 32 errors a year after they led the Pac-12 and ranked 3rd nationally in fielding pct (.982) and committed 36 errors over a span of 54 games.
• Late Game Success: The Huskies are 13-0 when they lead or are tied after 8 innings. They are 4-0 when tied after 8 innings and 4-0 in extra-inning games.
