Washington Heads to San Diego for First Road Trip
March 20, 2018 | Men's Tennis
SEATTLE – For this first time in 2018, Washington men's tennis is on the road, taking on No. 48 San Diego and San Diego State this week on Wednesday and Friday, respectively.
The Huskies (8-7, 0-2 Pac-12) are coming off of a bye week. The week before, UW started Pac-12 play with home matches against USC and UCLA, dropping both. In the latest ITA singles rankings, Mitch Stewart and Jake Douglas are ranked No. 80 and No. 82, respectively.
San Diego is currently 6-6 this season with one win in West Coast Conference play. In the second match of the year, the Toreros took down No. 10 TCU on the road in Texas, 4-3. The Toreros are represented in the ITA singles rankings by No. 77 August Holmgren and No. 121 Joel Gamerov. They also have two duos ranked in doubles at No. 72 and No. 79.
San Diego State is struggling this season. The Aztecs are 2-12 in 2018 but have won their one Mountain West Conference game. The biggest win for SDSU came against cross-town rival San Diego, ranked No. 23 at the time, in a 4-3 victory.
Both Wednesday's and Friday's matches will begin at 2 p.m. PT. Links for live streaming and scoring can be found on the men's tennis schedule page.
