SEATTLE --- Four players from the Washington men's soccer team have been named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Far West teams announced by the organization on Monday. It is the third-straight season the Huskies have had four players represented on the team and fifth time in eight year under Head Coach Jamie Clark.
Sophomore midfielder Blake Bodily earned first-team recognition, senior midfielder Corban Anderson and senior forward Scott Menzies were named to the second-team with senior defender Quentin Pearson earning third-team honors.
"I love seeing the hard work of our seniors be rewarded with well-deserved accolades," said Clark. "Those three have worked incredibly hard and grown as players each and every year. Each of these guys helped a different area of our team with Q leading our defense, Corban running the midfield and Menzies scoring goals. They will be missed as people and players."
"I am also incredibly happy for Blake," Clark added. "He's one of the most fun attacking players in the country and is treat for fans watch. Our hope is he will continue to develop and be competing for the Herman Award next season."
Bodily, who was a second-team selection as a freshman last season, had a solid year in the midfield for the Huskies, scoring a pair of goals and adding four assists. The sophomore was hampered by injury early in the season but came on strong at the end of the year, tallying a goal and three assists over the final four regular season games.
Anderson earned his first all-region honor this year after capping his collegiate career as one of the top midfielders on the west coast. One of the Huskies captains this year, he appeared in all 20 matches and making 16 starts. Anderson finished second on the team in minutes played at 1,663, scoring a career-high three goals and adding four assists to finish fourth on the team in points (10).
Menzies had a banner year for Washington, scoring a career-high nine goals including four game-winners in his final season with the Huskies. The senior, who earned his first all-region honor this year, scored as many goals in 2018 as he had in his previous three seasons combined. Menzies scored goals in four-straight Pac-12 games this season and scored against four of the other five conference teams this year.
Pearson has been a mainstay on the Huskies' back line all four seasons at UW including helping the Huskies post a 1.00 goals against average in 2018. Pearson, who also was named to the all-region team for the first time, appeared in 72 career games including 16 in 2018, battling a concussion late in the season. The senior helped anchor a backline that allowed 75 goals over the last four seasons combined—an average of 1.07 goals against.
Washington wrapped up the season with a 12-7-1 record, reaching the NCAA Tournament for six times in eight seasons under Head Coach Jamie Clark. The Huskies' defense wrapped up the season with five-straight shutouts, posting a scoreless streak of 486 minutes to close out 2018. The Huskies will open the 2019 season looking to extend its longest shutout stretch since the 1996 season—just two games shy of the program record.
