
Eleven Huskies Named to Pac-12 All-Academic Teams

SAN FRANCISCO --- Washington placed 11 on the 2018 Pac-12 Men's Soccer All-Academic team including Kasey French, John Magnus and Jaret Townsend earning first-team honors as the conference announced the awards on Monday morning.

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and appear in at least 50 percent of their team's games.

"We have a model group of student-athletes that I am incredibly proud of," said Head Coach Jamie Clark. "They are making the very most of attending a world class university and preparing themselves for their lives after college whether it be as professionals on or off the field."

Seniors Corban Anderson, Kyle Coffee and Quentin Pearson were named to the All-Academic Second-Team. It was the third-straight year earning All-Academic honors for Pearson and the second time being named to the squad for Anderson and Coffee.

Senior Scott Menzies, juniors Joey Parish and Saif Kerawala, and sophomores Blake Bodily and Cole Grimsby each earned Honorable Mention honors. Β

Both French and Magnus repeated as a first-team All-Academic selections for the second-straight season while Townsend earned second-team honors last year.

French, a redshirt-sophomore, posted the highest GPA on the team with a 3.98 in his last quarter and has a 3.89 GPA overall while pursuing a degree in physics. French was also was selected as a CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII honoree in November. Prior to suffering an injury, French appeared in 13 matches, playing 940 minute and recording three assists.

Magnus was a mainstay in the Huskies lineup, appearing in all 20 games while making 14 starts. The junior carries a cumulative 3.75 GPA while working toward a degree in computer science with a minor in mathematics.

Townsend also saw action in all 20 games for the Huskies, making 10 starts and scoring a goal with three assists. He is also a junior and has maintained a 3.69 GPA while working towards a business administration degree.

Overall, the Huskies have the best team GPAs among the men's teams at UW, posting a 3.34 cumulative GPA through the Spring 2018 quarter. Out of 26 players on the roster, 23 posted a GPA of 3.00 or higher.
