Seven Huskies Earn All-Pac-12 Recognition
November 14, 2018 | Men's Soccer
SAN FRANCISCO --- For the second-straight season, Washington placed seven players on the All-Pac-12 men's soccer team with a trio of Huskies earning a shot on the first team as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
Seniors Kyle Coffee and Quentin Pearson along with sophomore Blake Bodily were selected to the All-Pac-12 First Team while senior Scott Menzies earned second-team honors. Senior Corban Anderson and freshmen Ethan Bartlow and Dylan Teves received All-Pac-12 honorable mention recognition.
The seven players matched the Huskies total in 2017 and was the most since eight UW players earned all-conference honors in 2009. It was the fifth time in the last 12 years the Huskies have seen at least seven players earn All-Pac-12 recognition.
Coffee has had a banner season in 2018, recording more points this season than in any of his past four with the Huskies. The midfielder is one of four players to appear in all 19 matches, scoring four goals and adding seven assists. Coffee is a four-time All-Pac-12 selection, though this is his first time on the first-team. He earned second-team honors as a freshman and junior and honorable mention recognition as a sophomore.
Pearson is also making his first appearance on the All-Pac-12 first team after anchoring a defense which has allowed just 20 goals in 19 games. The senior defender appeared in 15 matches this season and has played in 71 career matches. He has a pair of assists on the season, giving him five goals and five assists in his career. Despite battling injuries this season, he is on pace for his fourth-straight season with at least 1,300 minutes played.
Bodily, the 2017 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, made a repeat appearance on the All-Pac-12 First Team in 2018. The midfielder has battled injuries through his sophomore campaign but has put together another impressive season, scoring a pair of goals and adding three four assists. Bodily has been key to the Huskies solid play over the last few weeks, recording a point in each of the last four matches (1 g, 3 a) including the game-winning goal in Washington's upset win over Oregon State on Nov. 9.
Menzies has capped his collegiate career with an impressive senior season, scoring nine goals to match his offensive output in his previous three seasons combined. The senior forward earned All-Conference honors for the first time in his career. He has done much of his damage in conference play, scoring five goals including three match-winners during Pac-12 action this season. Menzies also scored goals in four-straight matches for the Huskies over the final four matches of October and now has 18 goals and four assists in four seasons as a Husky.
Anderson continued to be one of the best midfielders in the conference, closing out his senior season helping lead the Huskies to yet another NCAA Tournament berth: his third in four seasons at UW. Anderson has erupted offensively as a senior, scoring three goals and assisted on four others after scoring just once with two assists in his previous three seasons. Anderson capped the season with a goal and an assist in a 2-0 victory over Loyola-Chicago on Nov. 1. He is also one of four players to appear in all 19 matches for the Huskies and has played in 67 matches in his career at UW.
Bartlow made an immediate impact for the Huskies as a true freshman, earning the opening-day start at centerback and missing just two matches due to injury midway through the season. Outside of those two matches, Bartlow has sat just four minutes over the other 17 games, anchoring a defense which has allowed just 20 goals through 19 matches and posted nine shutouts including four-straight to end the regular season. Bartlow scored his first collegiate goal to cap the scoring in the Huskies' 2-0 victory over Oregon State to close out the regular season and has added a pair of assists on the season.
Teves also made his mark right away as a freshman, finishing the regular season second on the team with five goals, adding a pair of assists in 18 games at forward. Teves, who didn't crack the starting line-up until October, rewarded the starting nod by scoring four goals and adding two assists over the final nine games of the year.
Washington continues to have a large bulk of the names on the all-conference squads, especially under Head Coach Jamie Clark. Since Clark took over in 2011, the Huskies have had 44 players earn All-Pac-12 honors with three players earning Freshman of the Year honors, one earning Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year and Clark being named Coach of the Year in 2013.
Washington wrapped up the 2018 season with a 12-7-0 record, defeating No. 22 Oregon State 2-0 in the regular-season finale—the Huskies' fourth-straight shutout. Washington opens the 2018 NCAA Tournament on Thursday night, hosting Lipscomb University in a first-round match at 7:00 p.m. at Husky Soccer Stadium. It's the Huskies' third-straight NCAA Tournament berth and sixth in the last seven years.
