Success For Current & Former Huskies At Canadian Championships
November 14, 2018 | Men's Rowing
Three current and two former Huskies competed at the 2018 RCA National Rowign Championshp Regatta and Canada Cup – the Canadian national championships – last weekend in Burnaby, B.C.
Canadian veteran Conlin McCabe '11 won the championship in the men's pairs along with his partner, Kai Langerfeld. In that same A final, two current UW sophomores – Steve Rosts and Peter Lancashire – finished in fifth place. McCabe's boat won the race in a time of 6:47.799, while Rosts and Lancashire posted a time of 7:01.988.
On the same day, in a field of 67 entries, Husky sophomore Nick Everett won the B final in the men's single sculls, winning his last race in a time of 7:17.124 to claim seventh place overall. UW alum Will Crothers '09 took fifth place in the A final.
"Getting to race at the NRC's was a remarkable opportunity to compete against Canada's top talent," Rosts said. "It has allowed Peter and I to see what is needed to make it to the next level. It was a great experience to get one step closer to achieving our goal of racing for Canada. I am extremely thankful for the endless support and opportunity provided by Washington Rowing."
"It's a goal of our program to support our student athletes national team ambitions," said UW assistant coach and former U.S. Olympian Sam Dommer, who accompanied the contingent of Canadian rowers last weekend. "We saw this a strong development opportunity and they capitalized on the experience."
