
Dawgs Set to Host Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational

SEATTLE β The University of Washington women's golf team returns to the links this week as it once again hosts the annual Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational this Tuesday-Wednesday, Oct. 9-10 at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish Wash. Β

The tournament includes 36 holes on Tuesday, Oct. 9, followed by an 18-hole final round on Wednesday, Oct. 10. The team will play the par-72, 6,014-yard course at Sahalee, site of the 1998 PGA Championship and the 2016 KPMG LPGA Championship.
The Dawgs, who won the event in 2017, welcome a great field this year in UC Davis, Pepperdine, Rutgers, Iowa, BYU, Oregon State, Long Beach State, Seattle U, San Francisco, Georgetown and Hawaii.

Tuesday's first and second rounds will tee off at 8 a.m. PT with a shotgun start and continuous play with Wednesday's final round starting with a shotgun at 8 a.m. as well.
THE LINEUP:Β The Huskies will play senior Julianne Alvarez, junior transfer Alice Duan, senior Wenyung Keh, senior Sarah Rhee and sophomore Rino Sasaki. Additionally, junior Karen Miyamoto, freshman Martha Lewis and sophomore Wenyan Ma will compete as individuals.

TOURNAMENT CHAMPS: In its season-opening tournament, the UW Huskies took home a share of the team title at the Nittany Lion Invitational, hosted by Penn State. The Dawgs carded an even-par 864 (294-287-283) and were led by newcomer Alice Duan. The junior transfer finished fourth overall for her first top 5 effort as a Husky with a 2-under 214 (75-71-68). Senior Sarah Rhee joined her in the top 10 as she tied for seventh for her eighth career top 10 showing. It was also Rhee's sixth top 10 effort over her last eight outings dating back to last season.
FALL SCHEDULE:Β Washington will compete in four fall tournaments along with hosting one event before spring play starts. After winning the Nittany Lion Classic, UW is hosting the Edean Ihlanfeld, Oct. 9-10 at Sahallee Golf Club, followed by the Stanford Intercollegiate, Oct. 19-32. The Dawgs will wrap up fall play Nov. 5-7 at the Pac-12 Preview played at Nanea Golf Club in Hawaii.

LAST SEASON RESULTS:Β Featuring a lineup of three juniors and two underclassmen, Washington went on to tie for ninth at the NCAA Championships, just missing the match play segment of the tournament. Β The Huskies finished fifth at the NCAA Tallahassee Regionals en route to earning a spot at the National event and were led by Sarah Rhee who tied for eighth. Overall UW posted eight top five finishes a year ago along with earning two team titles. Wenyung Keh led the team with a 73.00 stroke average and along with Rhee, posted five top 10 efforts on the year. Keh also set the UW single-round record when she shot a 9-under 63 in the first round of the NCAA Tallahassee Regionals.

SENIOR EXPERIENCE:Β The Huskies lineup still features three members of the 2016 NCAA National Championship squad in juniorsΒ Sarah Rhee,Β Julianne AlvarezΒ andΒ Wenyung Keh. The trio were freshman when Washington made history and all three contributed to UW's victory in match play. Since their freshman season, the trio have combined for 27 top 10 finishes, nine during their freshman campaign, six as sophomores and 12 last season.

RHEE-DICULOUS:Β SeniorΒ Sarah RheeΒ was key for the Huskies down the stretch a year ago, posting six top 10 finishes over her last eight events. She continued to set career-bests highlighted by posting back-to-back sub-70 rounds of 5-under 67 and 4-under 68 en route to a career best 8-under 208 at the NCAA Tallahassee Regional. Five of her eight career top-10 finishes came a year ago and the 208 in Tallahassee was the best round by a Husky since SooBin Kim shot a 9-under 210 in November of 2014.

NEW FACES: Washington's lineup will feature two new faces in junior transfer Alice Duan and freshman Martha Lewis. Duan comes to UW from Cal State Northridge and has been a standout on the amateur circuit. She advanced to the Round of 32 at the U.W. Women's Amateur National Championship this summer and claimed the title of the 2018 West Coast Women's Amateur and earned a victory at the Sacramento City Championship. Lewis hails from Surrey, England, the same city as former Husky and national champion Charlotte Thomas. She's represented England on the international circuit since 2013, posting numerous top 10 showings.
