Washington Earns Team Academic Award

KANSAS CITY, Mo. --- The University of Washington men's soccer team was named a 2017-18 Team Academic Award Winner announced Thursday by the United Soccer Coaches after posting a team GPA of 3.21 last year.
"I'm very proud of this group," said Head Coach Jamie Clark. "They work very hard in every aspect of their lives. They are attending on of the best academic institutions in teh world and making the very most of their experience."
A total of 778 soccer teams (291 men, 487 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 2017-18 academic year. Of that total, 195 schools had both their men's and women's programs recognized including Washington, which saw its women's team also honored after earning a 3.24 GPA last year.
The Huskies had a program-best 13 Washington men's soccer players earned Pac-12 All-Academic honors including two players earn first-team honors, four named to the second-team and seven receive honorable mention. Washington's 13 honorees matched the most in the conference and the most in the program's history after the 10 UW honorees on last season's team. Stanford also had 13 honorees with California adding 10 student-athletes, Oregon State having seven, UCLA adding five and San Diego State with four.
Additionally, Washington defender Kasey French was one of 11 student-athletes named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 First Team an award recognizing student-athletes athletic and academic achievements.
The Huskies are in action tonight at UCLA, then head to San Diego State on Sunday.
