COACH'S THOUGHTS: "We had a disappointing Fall but were without Carlโour number 1 playerโfor 2 events so that will hurt any team. But we had our freshmen get some experience in the lineup and they have improved as a result of that and feel much more settled competing at a new and higher level than junior golf. There is always an adjustment period and Noah and Jan have been really great additions to our team. I see them contributing greatly this spring."
"We have a better team than the results have shown and I am confident we will show that in the spring. We play an extremely strong tournament schedule and will see the best teams in the country on a regular basis. We play some superb championship golf courses and I believe it will be great preparation for the post season. We just have to take it one day at a time and focus on getting better. One of our goals will be to say at the end of each day that we got better today. If we can do that then I believe we can have a successful season."
"We need everyone to contribute. Arizona will be a great place to start as it is a very strong field and a good golf course so we will get a fair idea of where we are at. We're really excited and looking forward to the challenge."
LAST TIME OUT: Washington wrapped up the fall portion of the schedule with a 10th place finish at the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational in Hawaii. The Huskies posted their lowest three-round total of the year at 16-under 848 (280-283-285). Noah Woolsey finished tied for 16th overall at 8-under 206 (66-69-73), beating his previous best 54-hole total by eight strokes and posting a collegiate-low 66 in the opening round. Henry Lee finished in a tie for 23rd with a 6-under 210 (67-71-72), also posting a career-low 54-hole total.
ย
FALL SEASON: Washington had to fight through weather issues through the first two tournaments, seeing its first tournament in South Carolina cancelled and its second tournament in Ohio shortened due to rain. The Huskies finished in the top five twice, posting a fifth-place finish at the Inverness Intercollegiate and taking second at the William H. Tucker Invitational in New Mexico. UW had a busy month of October, closing out the fall with 12th place finishes at the Nike Collegiate Invitational and the Alister Mackenzie before posting a 10th place finish at the Warrior Wave Invitational.
ย
ASIA-PACIFIC CHAMPIONSHIPS: Junior Carl Yuan finished third at the 2017 Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship, carding a final-round 3-under 68 including birdies on the final two holes to finish in a tie for third place at 7-under 277. It was Yuan's third trip to the Asia-Pacific Championship and third top-20 finish. He placed 20th overall in 2014, the season before arriving at UW. Last season, he used another late run to place ninth overall.
