
Bwana Signs With Sounders FC

SEATTLE --- Washington standout Handwalla Bwana has signed a professional contract with Seattle Sounders FC as a Homegrown Player the team announced on Thursday.

Bwana is the third Sounders FC Homegrown Player signed out of UW.Β Darwin Jones signed homegrown with the Sounders after the 2014 season and Henry Wingo was a homegrown signee last season. He is the 12th Washington player selected in the MLS draft or signed homegrown over last five seasons.

"Handwalla has had two great seasons at Washington," said UW Head Coach Jamie Clark. "He's grown as a person and player, and it will be fun to see him follow in the footsteps of fellow Huskies, Henry Wingo and Christian Roldan, who have gone on to do very well with the Sounders."

Bwanaβa 2017 All-Pac-12 First-Team selection and the 2016 Pac-12 Freshman of the Yearβled the team in points over his two seasons at Washington. He tallied 15 points with four goals and seven assists as a freshman, then followed that up with eight goals and six assists as a sophomore.

"Handwalla is an exciting player that Pac-12 fans have enjoyed watching for the past two seasons," added Clark. "He will be missed, but it will be fun to watch him take the next step in his career."

In his career, Bwana appeared in 39 matches, recording 12 goals, 13 assists and 37 points. Of his 12 goals, four were match winners.Β
