
No. 10 Huskies Travel To No. 24 Akron For First Road Test

SEATTLE -- The No. 10 University of Washington men's soccer team makes its first road trip of the season this week to face No. 24 Akron on Friday (Sept. 1). The game will air live on ESPN3.

The Huskies (2-0) have already played one ranked foe in 2017, knocking off then-No. 20 New Mexico 2-1 in their season opener. Washington then beat Loyola Marymount 2-0 on Sunday to start the season undefeated.
After starting the season ranked No. 11, the Huskies broke into the Top 10 in the United Soccer Coaches rankings.

Washington has recorded four goals and three assists on the season. The Huskies' first tally of 2017 came courtesy of sophomore Elijah Rice in the 35th minute against the Lobos, while senior Scott Menzies scored on a penalty kick later in the second half. The Husky defense held the Lobo offense scoreless until the 85th minute.

The Huskies scored two second-half goals to defeat and shutout LMU. Sophomore Joey Parish tallied a goal in the 76th minute before sophomore Handwalla Bwana extended the lead in a breakaway situation in the 82nd minute.

Parish was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week Tuesday (Aug. 29) for his performance against Loyola Marymount. Parish, who did not see action Friday against New Mexico, recorded a goal and assist in the match. The Redmond, Wash. native entered the game in the 67th minute and made an immediate impact to earn his first career weekly honor.

This will be the third meeting between Washington and Akron with the all-time series record tied at 1-1. The two teams last met in 2004 when the Huskies hosted the Zips in the Husky Fever Classic. Akron won 2-1 after scoring in the 99th minute of overtime.
