SERIES HISTORY VS. ARIZONA
Arizona holds the all-time series lead over Washington, 30-27, but the Huskies have been working hard recently to cut into that advantage. UW has won 10 of the last 13 games and has taken two-out-of-three in the series in each of the last four meetings. Since the Pac-12 North and South started playing each other regularly, UW has won the series in Tucson just three times: 1999, 2013 and 2015. Last season, the Huskies took the series winning the first two games 6-3 and 8-4 on March 18 and 19 before dropping the finale. The two teams first met in 1999 where the Huskies won the first two matchups of the all-time series.ย
TEAM NOTES:ย
โข No. 1 Defense: The Huskies enter the weekend having committed a national-low 23 errors and are first with a fielding percentage of .985. When the Huskies do make errors, they do a good job of limiting the damage. They have not allowed more than one unearned run in any game and have given up a national-low 9 unearned runs overall.ย
โข APR Rankings: For a second-consecutive year, UW Baseball has been recognized for outstanding academic achievement. Based on the most recent Academic Progress Rates, UW is in the top-10 percent of all baseball teams.
โข Rankings Watch: The Huskies have been ranked as high as 10th during the season by Baseball America and currently are 30th in Collegiate Baseball's poll. They are still firmly in the hunt for post-season play as they sit tied for fourth in the Pac-12 standings. For a second-straight week, UW has a RPI of 51 and a record of 3-3 against teams ranked in the current top-50, including a series win over Baylor. Each of the Huskies final four series come against teams ranked in the RPI top-100, starting with Arizona this weekend, which sits at 13.ย
โข Pitching In: Washington's pitching staff enters the week 19th nationally and 3rd in the Pac-12 with a team ERA of 3.32. They are even better in Pac-12 action with a 3.07 ERA (2nd). UW has held opponents to 3 or fewer runs in 20 of 41 games and has a 18-2 record in those games.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES:ย
โข MJ Hubbs has reached base safely in 34-consecutive games and in all but one of his 37 starts. His streak is the longest among Pac-12 players (next longest was 30 by Nick Madrigal of OSU) and the longest as far as UW records go back. The senior outfielder had a career-high 15-game hit streak that was snapped in Sunday's game at Cal, but he walked in his final at bat to keep the streak of reaching base alive.
โข Joey Morgan was announced as D1Baseball's No. 1 rated catcher in the publication's mid-season position rankings. After hitting a team-best .411 in April, his average is up to .356 overall and he is even better at .443 in Pac-12 only play, which leads the conference. His on-base percentage of .470 ranks 2nd in the Pac-12 and he has reached safely in 36 of 40 games.
โข Jack Meggs became the 8th Husky to reach 200 career games last Sunday. He has 647 career at bats and is 18 away from entering the UW top-10 list for AB's.
โขNoah Bremer is in UW's career top-10 list in three categories: innings pitched (T7th, 255.1), starts (T8th, 37) and has strikeouts (T9th, 178). Complete lists are on page 11.
