No. 2 Washington Men Begin Postseason Competition At Pac-12 Championships

After setting Montlake Cut course records and winning all ten races at the 2017 Windermere Cup, Washington Rowing begins post-season competition this weekend as a total of ten boats will take part in the Pac-12 Championships this Sunday, May 14 on Lake Natoma.
The No. 2-ranked UW men will send first, second and third varsity eights, as well as a varsity four and a freshman eight to the Pac-12 Championships.
"This year we have really put the emphasis on work and this group of guys have shown tremendous work ethic throughout the season," said head coach Michael Callahan. "A Pac-12 Championship is the goal. There is always tough competition at Pac-12's and we know we will need to put together a great piece to win a championship."
Sunday, the Washington women, who have maintained a No. 1 overall ranking for six straight weeks, will race in the varsity four, the novice eight, and the first, second and third varsity eight races.
"The Pac-12 Championships will feature some of the best competition in the country in every event," said women's head coach Yasmin Farooq. "It's a total team effort akin to the NCAA's so every person and every boat matters. We've made progress in all lineups since the start of the season. We know it is going to be a tough battle, but we are ready for the challenge."
On the men's side, the Pac-12 conference features three of the top ten ranked teams according to the most recent USRowing Coaches Poll (No. 1 California, No. 2 Washington, and No. 10 Stanford), while the women's championships will feature five of the top 15 schools from the newest CRCA/USRowing Coaches Poll (No. 1 Washington, No. 2 California, No. 8 Stanford, No. 14 Washington State, and No. 15 USC).
The Pac-12 Championships will air on the Pac-12 Networks the following Sunday, May 21 at 10:30 a.m. PT. There will be no live video coverage of the championships, so the best way to follow the action "live" is via social media, particularly Twitter (@UW_Rowing). Race results will also be updated on Facebook as they come in.

Crews are awarded points for where they place in each race. The team with the most total points is crowed Pac-12 champion. The points system differs for the men and women. Here is the breakdown:
MEN'S POINT SYSTEM
The finish in the men's varsity eight would be utilized as a tie-breaker. The institution with the better finishing boat in the men's varsity eight would be awarded the better place finish at the Pac-12 Rowing Championships in case of a tie in the number of points.
