UW Falls To Oregon 2-4

EUGENE, Ore. – The Washington men's tennis team fell to Oregon today 2-4 to close out their 2017 regular season schedule at the Student Tennis Center.
"Unfortunately again there were a number of matches where we were in it but got ourselves behind," said head coach Matt Anger. "Some of that can be the other team, some us, but it's tough playing behind and especially on the road."
After battling the weather through rain delays, doubles began with Oregon claiming the early 1-0 lead. The Ducks won matches on courts one and three, while the match on court two went unfinished, with UW leading 5-3 and serving at match point.
Oregon extended their lead to 2-0 with a win on court four, and later to 3-0 by claiming the match on court one. However, the Huskies battled back and got on the board with a tough 7-5, 6-4 victory by senior Gal Hakak. On court two, Jake Douglas dropped his first set 3-6 to Simon Stevens, but came back with a 6-0 win in the second, and picked up the victory by winning the third set 6-2.
With the match at 3-2 Oregon, it all came down to the remaining matches at courts five and six. Piers Foley forced a third set by winning the second in a tie-breaker 10-8, but the Ducks clinched with a win on court five to end the match.
"Our guys were hanging in and doing a good job," said Anger. "Jake did a good job and Gal won in straight sets. Piers saved some match points and kept it going but it was tough for Amit there in that last match."
The Huskies end their 2017 regular season schedule with a 12-10 record, but now turn their attention to postseason play, with the Pac-12 Team Championships beginning Wednesday April 26th in Ojai, Calif.
