OJAI, Calif. – In the opening round of the Pac-12 men's tennis championships, the Washington Huskies fell to Utah today 1-4 at Libbey Park.
"I'm very disappointed," said head coach Matt Anger. "Congratulations to Utah for pulling the match out, but when I look at our guys and our season at the end, I like our team and think we're very capable."
Utah clinched the doubles point to begin the match by claiming the matches on courts three and two. Jake Douglas and Piers Foley remained in a tight battle on court one but their match went unfinished.
In singles the Huskies looked to start a comeback against the Utes but were only able to claim first set victories on two courts. On court two, Stewart dropped a tough match with Dan Little 6-4, 6-1, but Gal Hakak was able to claim a point back for UW with a win on court three.
However, Utah would eventually clinch the match with wins on courts four and six, with the remaining matches on courts one and five going unfinished.
