SEATTLE - Washington (4-3) returns home for its next 11 games, including its opening home stand of 2017. First up, the Huskies and will host four games against Sacramento State, starting Thursday and running through Sunday. Β
The Huskies spent 12 days in the Bay Area and return winners of 2-of-3 against Santa Clara and split a four-game series against St. Mary's. All three of the UW's losses were by one run.
The Hornets are coming off a four-game sweep of Northern Kentucky and opened the season by beating Washington State in two of three games.
UW was picked fourth in the Pac-12 Preseason Coaches Poll and are ranked in four of five of the major national polls, including a high of 11th in Baseball America's rankings. SERIES HISTORY VS. SACRAMENTO STATE:
The two teams have just met three times previously, twice at neutral sites and once in Sacramento and the Huskies enter the series with a 3-0 advantage. The teams first played each other in 1979 and the Huskies won a single game on the road, 12-2. Β The Huskies and the Hornets met again in 1989 and UW won 10-5. The last time the teams met was in 2004 at the Riverside Baseball Invitational Tournament and UW won that game 4-2.Β

β’ AJ Graffanino has a career high 12-game hit streak that is a continuation of last season, hitting .356 (16x45) during that stretch.Β
β’ Joe DeMers is the only Pac-12 pitcher to throw 7 innings in each of his first two starts and leads the Conference with 14 innings pitched.
β’ Noah Bremer has allowed 2 or fewer runs in 25 of 33 career starts and just 2 (one earned) in 12 innings this season. He is 2nd in the Pac-12 with 18 strikeouts and leads the lead by 5 with 13 K's looking.
β’ Jack Meggs has made 73 consecutive starts. He also passed the 500 career AB mark last week, most among current Huskies.
β’ Nick Kahle and Jordan Jones had amazing UW debuts. Kahle was 2x4 with a 3-run HR, 2-run double for 5 RBI and Jones struck out 9 and walked 0, with 1 ER to in his first career starts Feb. 19.
WHO ARE THESE HUSKIES:Β
β’ The Huskies are comprised of 17 returners and 18 newcomers. The group of returners includes every starter in the field except 2016 All-Pac-12 third baseman Chris Baker. The pitching staff returns Noah Bremer and Joe DeMers, who combined to make every Friday-Saturday start during the season. The five returning pitchers combined to throw 250.2 out of 511.2 inning from last season. The Huskies do have to replace unanimous All-American Troy Rallings, who was 4-1 with a 0.89 ERA and 16 saves in 2016.
β’ The 18 newcomers are ranked as high as 9th by Baseball America for best recruiting classes. There are three redshirt-freshmen, one junior-college transfer and 14 true freshmen on the Huskies' roster.Β
β’ The Huskies return two players that earned All-Pac-12 honors in 2016: outfielder Jack Meggs and catcher Joey Morgan. Meggs also earned All-Pac-12 Defensive Team honors. Pitcher Noah Bremer, first baseman John Naff and second baseman Levi Jordan each earned honorable mention All-Pac-12.
β’ UW (33-23, 17-13 Pac-12) fought all the way until the end last year, finishing second in the Conference behind champion Utah after dropping the final game of the series on the last day of the season to the Utes. The Huskies earned their 10th all-time NCAA bid and were sent to Nashville, Tenn., where they went 1-2. Their lone win eliminated host Vanderbilt from the tournament.Β
β’ The Huskies are picked to finish 4th in the Pac-12 Conference, according to coaches. Oregon State was picked first, followed by Stanford and Arizona. The Huskies did receive one first-place vote. Nationally the Huskies are ranked in four of the five major polls. The highest ranking they have is 12th by Baseball America.
