
Dawgs Return Home To Host Portland

SEATTLE – Following back-to-back weekends on the road the Washington men's tennis team returns home to the Nordstrom Tennis Center, hosting Portland this Saturday February 11th at 2:30 p.m.
This past weekend the Huskies dropped a tough 3-4 match at Pepperdine, with five of the six singles matches going into third sets, three of which went to third set tie-breakers. Washington has been led by junior Mitch Stewart this season, who owns a team-high 10 singles wins this year and ranks 108th in the latest ITA Singles Rankings. Freshman Amit Batta has also come up big for the Dawgs this season, having gone undefeated in both singles and doubles owning 4-0 records in each.
Currently in his 19th season, head coach Aaron Gross has lead Portland to a 4-0 record so far, opening with wins over Portland State, Idaho, Seattle and Sacramento State. The Pilots are led by Michail Pervolarakis, who has begun his junior campaign with a 4-0 record in singles, all on court one, and is currently ranked 56 in singles by the ITA. This will be the 55th meeting between Portland and Washington, with the Dawgs owning a 54-0 record all time. Last season, the Huskies came out on top of a 4-3 match at home against the Pilots, with current senior Gal Hakak clinching the match on a 6-4 win in the third set.
Saturday's match will be Campus Kids' Day, with a team meet and greet after the match concludes, free "W" stencils, face tattoos and the chance to win prizes. As always admission to the Nordstrom Tennis Center will be free, with pizza and water served to all in attendance between the doubles and singles matches.
