Huskies Headed To #1 Stanford This Week
October 09, 2017 | Women's Soccer
SEATTLE - The Washington Huskies will head to Stanford, California for their only game this week, against the #1 Stanford Cardinal on Friday, October 13 at 8:00 pm. It will be the second straight week on the road for the Huskies, who went 1-0-1 against the Oregon schools in Pac-12 play last week. The last time the Huskies faced a top-five team was earlier this year against #2 Florida, a game that saw Washington triumph 1-0.
The Huskies sit at 9-3-2 overall, 2-1-2 in the Pac-12 after tying Oregon State and defeating Oregon last weekend. Washington's shutout streak sits at 400 minutes now, coming on the heels of a 515-minute shutout streak that ended against Cal earlier this year. The Huskies have allowed just one goal in the last 915 minutes and are ninth in the nation in goals against average, allowing just 0.41 goals per game.
The Oregon shutout gave Sarah Shimer ten on the year, tying the Husky single-season record. That record was set by Kelsey Rasmussen in 2004. Shimer has allowed multiple goals in regulation just once all season.
Kimberly Keever scored the game-winner against Oregon, giving her four game-winners on the year. That total is tied for the conference lead in the Pac-12. Keever has scored five goals total this year and 21 in her career now, tying her for sixth in Washington history. Just one more goal this season by Keever would tie her with Caroline Putz for fifth.
Stanford enters Friday's game 12-1-0 on the season and 5-0-0 in conference, sitting as the top-ranked team in the nation. The Cardinal's only loss came against Florida in August, losing 3-2 on the road to the Gators. Since then, Stanford has allowed just two goals in ten games, winning all of them. Stanford defeated Utah and Colorado last week, winning each game 3-0.
All-time, Stanford leads the series between these two teams 16-2. Washington's last win came in 2004, a 1-0 victory in Seattle. The last time Washington faced the nation's number-one team was last year against Stanford in a 3-0 loss.
