Huskies Set For Championship Matches After Strong Day At The UCSB Classic

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Piers Foley in singles and Kawika Lam and Enzo Sommer in doubles advanced to the championships of their respective brackets after day two of the UCSB Classic on Saturday.

Flight B was particularly eventful for the Huskies. Foley won both of his matches, including a three-set win, in that bracket to make it to Sunday's championship match. Freshman Jack Davis picked up two wins to advance to the ninth-place match on Sunday.

After winning his first match, Joao Barra dropped his second. The two matches he played today went to three sets. He will play for 11th place in flight A in the final day of competition.

In flight C, Sebastian Hawken lost his first match, but followed that up with a victory to get to play for fifth place on Sunday. Lam also split his matches, putting him in the 13th-place match tomorrow. Alexis Alvarez struggled on Saturday, dropping both of his matches. He will play for seventh place on Sunday.

Sommer, who lost his singles match due to injury, teamed up with Lam to advance to flight A's championship match after defeating a duo from UCLA 8-2.

Washington's two other doubles pairs struggled, both falling in their matches. Alvarez, Davis and Foley, Hawken will both play for seventh place in flights B and C, respectively.
