
Three Singles Wins And A Doubles Win Highlights First Day Of UCSB Classic

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – After the first day of the UCSB Classic on Friday, Washington men's tennis picked up three singles wins and one doubles win to advance to the championship bracket.
Piers Foley picked up a win in the singles B flight, defeating Henrik Atlevi from UC Santa Barbara in three sets, 6-7, 6-2, 6-0. Alexis Alvarez, a freshman playing in his first collegiate match, defeated Jacob Lagman from Saint Mary's in flight C. He won in three sets, 6-7, 7-6, 6-4. Sebastian Hawken also won in flight C, beating Pacific's Bernardo Oliveira in another three-set victory, 6-1, 1-6, 6-4. All three Husky players advanced to the championship brackets and will play on Saturday.
In the A flight for singles, Enzo Sommer and Joao Barra both dropped their matches. Freshman Jack Davis and Kawika Lam both lost as well, playing in flights B and C, respectively. Play continues for the four of them in the consolation bracket on Saturday.
In doubles, Sommer and Lam teamed up for a win in the first round in flight A. They took down Moser and Soke from Fresno State, 8-5, to advance to the next round on Saturday.
The freshman duo Davis and Alvarez along with Hawken and Foley both dropped their doubles matches, putting them in the consolation bracket.
