SEATTLE - The Washington Huskies hit the road for the first time in Pac-12 play this week, heading to Oregon for games against the Oregon State Beavers and Oregon Ducks. The matchup with Oregon State will come first, on Thursday, October 5 at 7:00 pm. Washington will then take on Oregon on Sunday, October 8 at 1:00 pm in Eugene, Ore.
The Huskies went 1-0-1 last week and did not allow a goal over two games, defeating #24 Utah 2-0 before tying with Colorado 0-0. Pascale Dumesnil had a goal and an assist in the Utah win and has now scored or assisted on four of the last five goals by the Huskies. Amanda Perez also scored in that win in her return from an ankle injury.
Sarah Shimer's shutouts in those two games gave her eight on the year, the most in the Pac-12. Shimer also leads the Pac-12 in save percentage (.872) and is second in goals against average (0.48). The senior has seven shutouts in the last eight games, having allowed just one goal over the last 715 minutes of play. Her eight shutouts this year are tied for the third-most in a single season in Husky history, with the record being Kelsey Rasmussen's ten in 2004. Her GAA currently ranks as the best in a single season in Husky history, ahead of Hope Solo's 0.68 in 2001.
Oregon State has lost five straight matches after starting the year 3-1-2, scoring just two goals in that time. Emma Jones, Natalie Higgins, and Diana Santiago are all tied for the team lead in points for Oregon State, with each recording a goal and an assist this season. In goal, Bella Geist has played all 11 games, recording four shutouts en route to a 1.48 GAA. All-time, the Huskies lead the series 8-5-3 but fell 1-0 last year to the Beavers.
Oregon sits at 6-5-0 on the year but 0-3-0 in conference. The Ducks have faced Arizona, UCLA, and USC thus far in the Pac-12. Oregon's last win came on September 17, a 4-0 win over Idaho State. Marissa Everett leads the team in points with nine so far, coming on three goals and three assists. Kyra Fawcett has scored four goals for the Ducks despite playing just 270 minutes on the season.
The Huskies are 11-4-2 all-time against Oregon, winning 2-1 last season. Washington lost to Oregon in 2014 and 2015, one of just two times in history that Oregon has won multiple games in a row against the Huskies. Before that, the Huskies had not lost since 2006, winning or tying seven straight matchups.
