SEATTLE --- Washington IMG Sports Marketing, the third party multimedia rights holder for University of Washington athletics, announced that Gary Hill Jr. has been named play-by-play host for women's basketball beginning with the 2017-18 season.
Hill is a fixture in the local sports radio scene, working for numerous sports teams throughout the Puget Sound area.
"Gary is a true professional who is a Seattle guy and a true sports guy," Steve Gahler, General Manager of Washington IMG Sports Marketing, said. "We are glad to have him be a part of the 'new era' of Washington Women's Basketball. His knowledge and expertise of local sports will help provide our fans with an outstanding broadcast game in and game out."
Hill's recent work in radio includes serving as network pregame and postgame studio host, play-by-play announcer and official daily podcast host for the Seattle Mariners. He also acts as network studio anchor for the Seattle Seahawks radio broadcasts and has served as play-by-play announcer for UW baseball, basketball and softball.
"I am thrilled to broadcast University of Washington Women's Basketball," said Hill. "The tradition of the program is tremendous and I am especially excited to work with Coach Wynn and her staff."
Hill, a graduate of Washington State University, has worked in radio for over 18 years, starting with baseball play-by-play work for his alma mater. He will call all home and away games with Elise Woodward providing color commentary for a number of non-conference home games throughout the season.
"I am incredibly fortunate to be joining Elise Woodward," said Hill. "She is absolutely as good as it gets as an analyst and broadcaster."
Hill's broadcasts can be heard on KKNW AM 1150, the official home of UW women's basketball. The UW women's basketball season tips off on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 1:00 p.m. as the Huskies host Idaho State at Alaska Airlines Arena.
