October 16, 2017 | Women's Soccer
SEATTLE - The Washington Huskies return home after two weeks of road games, hosting the #6 USC Trojans and the #2 UCLA Bruins this week. The Huskies take on USC on Thursday, October 19 at 5:00 pm as a part of Seattle Sounders and Reign Night, with more information on that promotion available online. The game against UCLA will be on Sunday, October 22 at 2:00 pm. Tickets for both games are available online.
The Huskies couldn't quite get the win in their only game last week, falling 1-0 to #1 Stanford on the road. That game was scoreless until the 86th minute, when the Cardinal found a goal to get the win. Sarah Shimer made a career-high nine saves in that game while Dominique Bond-Flasza, Shannon Simon, and Kimberly Keever all recorded shots on goal for the Huskies.
Washington is now over halfway through Pac-12 play, sitting at 2-2-2 with five games left to play this season. Three of those five games will be at home for the Huskies, who are 4-2-1 at Husky Soccer Stadium this season. The 2-2-2 conference record puts Washington squarely in the middle of the standings, sitting in sixth with eight points, just two points behind Arizona.
#6 USC is 11-1-1 this season and 5-0-1 in conference. The only loss for the Trojans this year came at Kansas on September 3. A 0-0 tie at Utah is the only other blemish thus far on USC's schedule. USC has scored 25 goals this year while allowing just eight.
Savannah DeMelo and Tara McKeown are tied for the team lead in points, with each recording four goals and five assists so far. Alex Anthony leads the team in goals with five, adding an assist as well. Kaylie Collins has started all but one game in goal for the Trojans and has a 0.65 GAA on the year, good for fifth in the Pac-12.
The Huskies are 6-9-2 all-time against USC. The two teams have split their last four matchups, with the Huskies winning 1-0 in 2013 and 2015 and falling 2-1 in 2014 and 1-0 in 2016. At home, the Huskies are 4-3-1 against the Trojans.
#2 UCLA sits at 12-0-2 overall and 5-0-1 in the Pac-12 entering this week, with a game against Washington State on tap before playing the Huskies. UCLA has tied Arizona 2-2 and Pepperdine 1-1, winning all their other games so far this season. The Bruins have scored multiple goals in their last five games and in seven of the last eight.
Hailie Mace leads the Bruins and the Pac-12 with 12 goals and 27 total points through 14 games. Ashley Sanchez's seven assists also lead the Pac-12, putting her in a tie with teammate Jessie Fleming and Stanford's Jaye Boissiere. In goal is Teagan Micah, who has played to a 0.76 GAA while recording five shutouts.
The all-time series favors UCLA 13-3-1. Recent history has seen the series closely contested, however, with Washington winning 2-1 in 2015 and falling in overtime last year. The Huskies also tied UCLA in 2013.
