Washington Falls To No. 5 Georgia 4-0

ATHENS, Ga. – In the final match at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend the Washington men's tennis team fell to No. 5 Georgia 4-0 today at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Facility.
"I don't necessarily have the feeling that we were on the losing end," said Anger. "But Georgia deserved the match and won more of those close points."
In doubles, Piers Foley and Wendell Watanabe fell on court one 6-2 to No. 54 Robert Loeb and Jan Zielinski with Enzo Sommer and Kawika Lam dropping their match 6-4 to give Georgia the doubles point.
Due to the size of Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Facility, only four singles matches could be played to begin the match, with the matches at the fifth and sixth positions beginning once space was available.
Washington faced a tough challenge in singles, with Georgia owning rankings on five of their six courts. Each match remained close, but the Bulldogs struck first on court one, as 22nd ranked Wayne Montgomery defeated No. 60 Mitch Stewart 6-4, 6-4 to take a 2-0 lead.
On court four, Jake Douglas and No. 56 Zielinski traded the lead multiple times throughout their match, but Georgia claimed their third point with a 7-5, 7-5 win. On court two, Sommer faced No. 31 Emil Reinberg, coming back in the second set to win 7-5 and force a third set. The Bulldogs ultimately claimed their clinching point however, with Sommer falling in the third set 6-2.
"No doubt it was a fun match to be a part of," said head coach Matt Anger. "There was a lot of good tennis and lots of drama with tight games and sets."
The Huskies will return home this week before heading to Malibu, Calif. to face Pepperdine on Sunday February 5th at noon.
