Senior Week Spotlight: Paige Serwold
October 27, 2016 | Women's Soccer
This week, we celebrate the 2016 senior class for the Washington women's soccer team, leading up to senior day on Sunday October 30th against Oregon State at Husky Soccer Stadium. Today we recognize midfielder and defender Paige Serwold, who has seen action as a substitute throughout her time with the program, but has played her largest role off the bench this past season. Making appearances in 11 matches this year, her biggest game was against Colorado, when she found an open Kimberly Keever across the box for the score to register her first career assist at UW. The Silverdale, Wash. native will graduate this year with a major in communications and look to remain in Seattle and work within athletics.

What has been your favorite moment while here at UW, both on and off the field?
"My favorite on the field moment would be when we made it to the Sweet 16 and then dogpiled on the field my sophomore year. Off the field I'd say, after you're done with fitness and looking back and seeing what you just did together as a team. All the hard work that you just put into that and the fact that you did it together while pushing each other."
As a senior, what advice would you give to a freshman?
"It goes by really fast, so make the most of your seasons because you put so much hard work into all of the offseason and your season is so short. For example, this year, our season seems so short and this is the end for me, it's kind of weird for me to grasp that in three weeks soccer is going to be over. Just make the most of it and really try and take what the coaches are saying and apply it to your game as fast as you can."
What's your plan after graduation?
"I know that for a while I was thinking I'd want to go somewhere else, maybe go to California and live there for a little bit. But after traveling this year, especially after I came home, I'd be so glad to be back in Seattle. So I think I'll stay here, and I think I want to get an internship with a sports program, but I'm not too sure."
What will you miss the most about UW and being with the soccer program?
"I think the team aspect. That was a really big reason why I played Division-I soccer in college, because I liked being a part of something bigger than myself. So I think I'll definitely miss that, and obviously the players because they're my best friends. I'll miss all of the inside jokes too because I live with a bunch of the younger kids, so I'm going to have a fear of missing out. But I think definitely not being a part of the team anymore is what I'll miss the most."
What would one major takeaway from your experience here be?
"Not to get so caught up with the small things. Everything doesn't always go your way and things happen but you can't let that effect you and get you down, you just have to look at the bigger picture beyond yourself."
