KAILUA KONA, Hawai'I – The University of Washington women's golf team posted a 48-over 924 to finish 10th at the stacked Pac-12 Preview hosted by the University of Hawai'I at Nanea Golf Club. The Dawgs had their best round of the 54-hole event on Tuesday and were led by sophomores Julianne Alvarez and Sarah Rhee who both finished tied for 36th.
"We're obviously disappointed overall but we just need to get back, get out on the course and regroup," said head coach Mary Lou Mulflur. "This was a tough but beautiful course and we always enjoy coming out here because we're treated so well. We're going to work hard before next week to hopefully close out the fall on a more positive note."
Rhee carded an even-par 73 on Tuesday as she knocked in four birdies for her best round of the event to climb seven spots up the leaderboard and finish at 12-over 231 (77-81-73).
"Sarah played really well and it was nice to see her bounce back after that tough second round," said Mulflur. "She really struggled here last year and it was good to see her end on a good note. For her, that was a mental win and a confidence booster."
Alvarez matched her score as she went 1-over 74 over the final 18 holes for her best score of the event as well. Alvarez went 78-79-74 and totaled eight birdies and one eagle over the two days.
Sophomore Wenyung Keh was just behind her teammates, finishing 40th after turning in a 13-over 232 (74-78-80).
Rounding out scoring for the Dawgs was freshman Ellen Takada, who matched her second round score of 4-over 77 to close out the tournament climbing three spots to tie for 50th with a 20-over 239 (85-77-77). Fellow freshman EunWon Park placed 52nd after carding a 21-over 240 (81-76-83) in her first event in the top five rotation.
No. 20 Arizona State took home the team title finishing at 2-over 878 while No. 30 Arizona came in second (+5, 881) and No. 3 Stanford finished third (+13, 889). USC's Robynn Ree claimed the individual title at 6-1under 213.
Up next, the Dawgs head to Atlanta for the prestigious Eastlake Cup, Oct. 31-Nov. 2, featuring UCLA, Stanford and Duke.
