
Huskies Take A Break From Conference Play To Host Gonzaga

On the Road Again
No. 17 Washington (9-4-0) will take a break from Pac-12 play on Friday, Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. PT as they host Gonzaga (7-5-1). The game will be available via Husky Live Stream at pac-12.com/live/university-washington. Live stats will also be available on gohuskies.com. Last Time Out
The University of Washington men's soccer team battled with Oregon State for over 100 minutes in the pouring rain Friday night. After a golden goal in the second overtime, the Dawgs took home the win, finishing 2-1. The first half of the match was dominated by Oregon State. In the 27th minute Oregon State's Don Tchilao made a solo run into Husky territory forcing goalkeeper Auden Schilder out of the box, where he took a shot and found the back of the net. he second half started off bright for the squad as Steven Wright converted a penalty kick after getting fouled by an Oregon State athlete in the 46th minute. Wright's second goal of the season tied the game at 1-1. After regulation expired, the teams went into overtime. Washington came out aggressive, controlling the ball early in the first overtime. Handwalla Bwana took a shot in the 91st minute that went wide. Unable to find a scoring opportunity in the first overtime, the teams went into a second overtime. Mason Robertson was the hero, ending the match with a goal from Elijah Rice in the 101st minute.
Last Time at Home
The pouring rain did not seem to faze the Dawgs Sunday night. Two goals were enough to hold back the Bears as the Huskies captured the win, 2-1. The game's two goals came from two first time scorers this season- Luke Hauswirth and Quentin Pearson. Hauswirth's goal came off a pass from Handwalla Bwana to Henry Wingo, who tapped it to Hauswirth in the ninth minute. Hauswirth, from the 18, bent it around to the far corner for a Husky goal. The second goal, once again, came from a long pass from Bwana that was deflected off a Cal defender. Pearson slid in on the right side to slice the ball in the far left corner of the net in the 60th minute. The Bears were able to net one ball in the 56th minute. Spencer Held was credited the goal. The Huskies totaled for 13 shots on the night. Kyle Coffee led the offensive game with four.
On an Offensive Roll
Huskies have been explosive offensively, totaling 11 goals in their last four wins. The offensive game has several key players. Handwalla Bwana leads the team in goals with goals (4), scoring in the last three of four wins. Mason Robertso holds four goals and David Coly holds three goals on the season, Coly has two assists. Kyle Coffee has two assists and two goals for 2016 play thus far.
No. 24 on the Field and No. 14 on the Charts
No. 17 Washington freshman midfielder Handwalla Bwana currently posts a top-20 national ranking in total assists (6). On Top Drawer Soccer he is ranked at 14 in the TD Top 100 Freshmen.
Robertson's Comeback Season
Last Friday, senior Mason Robertson scored his fourth goal of the season , tying Handwalla Bwana for the most goals in 2016 for the team (4). Last season, Robertson suffered a season ending kneww injury. He spent the Spring and Summer rehabbing his knee and is now back and surpassing all expecatations. He has four goals, one assist and has played all 13 gmaes in 2016,
Dawgs in the Community
Last weekend the sophomore clas participated in a walk to bring awareness to Domestic Violence. Held by a campus organization, male participants walked a mile in high heels, promoting the message "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes". The Huskies that participated were Quetin Pearosn, Ryan Degroot, Joey Parish, Corban Anderson and Andrew Conwell.
The Series with Gonzaga
Washington holds the power in the series with the Bulldogs, holding an all-time series record of 27-1-1. Last season the two teams faced off in the first match of the season where Washington claimed the win, 1-0..
Scouting the Bulldogs
Gonzaga started the season 5-0-1 and outscoring their opponents 15-6 which culminated in being ranked in the NSCAA NCAA Division I Poll at No. 20, their first appearance in the poll since 2007. Since then, Gonzaga has gone 2-5, being outscored 5-14. The team added four freshmen to hteir roster this season and are led by five seniors.
Starting II
Two Huskies have started all ten matches this season – Steven Wright and Luke Hauswirth. Wright has played 1001 minutes while Hauswirth has played 1121 minutes. Wright has one goal and two assists on the season. Hauswirth has one assist and one goal.
In the Rankings
After their four win streak, the Dawgsentered the rankings at No. 16. They are currently ranked No. 22 in the NSCAA poll The squad is currently third in the conference behind Stanford (3-0) and UCLA (2-1).
Surpassed Goals
Last season proved to be an offensive struggle for the Huskies. In the entire 2015 season the team scored 18 goals. In the ten matches this season they have already surpassed that amount by scoring 23.
