SEATTLE -- Three Huskies were honored with the announcement of the D-I All-Region Teams by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Ryan Herman and Justin Schmidt were each named to the All-Far West First Team, while Henry Wingo made the Third Team.
Herman was the clear choice for goalkeeper on the first team after finishing third in the nation with an 88 percent save percentage and tied sixth in the nation with 10 shutouts. He also led the Pac-12 in both categories, while also making a conference-best 85 saves and compiling a 0.63 goals against average.
Schmidt also earned first team honors after leading the Washington defense that allowed just 13 goals in 19 games. The Center back was the key to the Husky backline that ranked sixth in the country, allowing just 0.63 goals per game. Schmidt is also a threat going forward, scoring a goal and adding three assists.
Finally, Wingo was named to the third team for his role in the Husky midfield. The versatile and explosive sophomore came into his own this season, playing in all 19 games and leading the Dawgs attacking players in minutes. The two-way player took on an even bigger role midway through the season when James Moberg was lost to injury, setting up the Husky attack and tracking back to help the defense.
Each of Herman, Schmidt and Wingo were honored for the first time. Last season, Washington had four All-Region players with Cristian Roldan and Andy Thoma earning first team and Darwin Jones and Moberg earning second team.
