Gold Explodes For 11 Runs To Tie Up Purple & Gold World Series
October 21, 2014 | Baseball
SEATTLE – The Gold team scored six times in the third inning to overcome a 3-0 deficit and cruise to an 11-3 victory in game two of the Purple and Gold World Series Tuesday at Husky Ballpark to even the series at 1-1.
Gold sent nine batters to the plate in the decisive third inning a day after being limited to one hit by the Purple squad. Braden Bishop supplied the big hit with a two-run double that gave Gold the 4-3 lead. The Gold team would add another run on a throwing error and double-play ball to make it 6-3.
The lead would prove to be plenty for Gold reliever Henry Baker, who came on in the second inning.
Purple got on the scoreboard first, plating two runs in the first inning. After a Jack Meggs lead-off walk and Austin Rei one-out single, Branden Berry laced a double into the right-center gap to score Meggs. Rei stopped at third but scored when Berry got caught in a rundown between second and third base.
Purple added another run in the second to make it 3-0. After an infield single by Levi Jordan and double by Josh Cushing, starting pitcher Noah Bremer threw a pitch in the dirt that allowed Jordan to score.
That would be it for the Purple team, as Baker entered the game with two outs in the second and was perfect in 4 and 1/3 innings of relief. He struck out six to earn the win.
Gold extended its lead to 7-3 in the fifth on a RBI double by Duncan Hendrickson before putting the game away for good in the sixth inning. They would send up 10 batters in the innings scoring four more runs on five hits.
Alex Nesbitt came on to close out the game in the seventh with a perfect inning of work.
Bishop, Hendrickson and Chris Baker all had two hits to lead the Gold offensive attack. Bishop was 2 for 3 with a double, three runs scored, a stolen base and three RBI. Hendrickson and KJ Brady had two RBI each.
The final game of the series is slated for Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. Admission is free.
