Three Husky Seniors Earn All-Pac 12 Honors

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – The Pac-12 Conference office announced the All-Conference Women's Rowing and three Husky seniors were named to the team. Madison Culp, Marie Strohmayer, and Victoria Nenchev were honored as the top rowers in the conference.
This trio of Huskies were at the forefront of the Huskies' best feats this season, namely their first win over California's varsity eight for the first time since 2003. The Huskies' top boat went on to beat California at the Pac-12 Championships a few weeks later. Culp, Strohmayer and Nenchev helped the varsity eight reach the grand finals at the NCAA Championships, where the team finished in 6th place overall against the fastest crews in the country. This is the first career selection for all three rowers.
Culp, a senior from Seattle's Roosevelt High, has rowed in the varsity eight boat since her freshman year. Last summer in Lithuania, she won a gold medal for the United States at the U-23 World Championships. After graduation, Culp will continue to train and try to make the U-23 team for the second consecutive summer.
Strohmayer, a senior from Zell Germany, has rowed in the varsity eight boat since her freshman year. Rowing six seat, she helped the Varsity Eight earn a bronze medal at the 2012 Pac-12 Championships. She was also named to the 2nd Team Pac-12 All-Academic Rowing Team in 2012.
Nenchev, a redshirt senior from Vancouver, Wash. took a year off to in 2012 to train and focus on school. She came back better than ever and earned her way into the varsity eight a couple of weeks into the season. Nenchev is no stranger to medaling, winning a Pac-10 gold medal with the V4 as a sophomore and winning the petite finals at the 2011 NCAA Championships.
Members of the All-Conference rowing teams are based upon each institution's finish in the varsity eight race at the Pac-12 Championships, which were held May 19 on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif. The conference champion provides four members of the All-Conference team, the Pac-12 second-place crew provides three members and the third-place finisher provides two. All other participating conference crews receive one selection each
