Dawgs Well Represented At U.S. U-20 Training Camp

SEATTLE -- Assistant Coach Amy Griffin and midfielder Isabel Farrell have been selected to participate at the U-20 U.S. Women's National Team Camp next week. Griffin will coach the goalkeepers, while Farrell will join 23 other players at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.
The Training Camp begins the cycle that will end with the U-20 Women's World Cup in 2014. The United States won the last U-20 World Cup, played in 2012 in Japan.
Griffin was a member of the coaching staff that won that 2012 U-20 World Cup and returns to try to repeat.
"When I get invited into a US Soccer Youth National Team Camp, it is similar to being a player," said Griffin. "It is a thrill to get to work with great coaches and players and it pushes my skill set as a coach. There is something about slipping on the gear with the US Soccer crest that makes me realize how lucky I am to be so involved in a sport that has given so much to me. It's even more special when there are Huskies that are out on the field and we can go through the camp together."
Farrell is coming off a successful freshman season where she helped Washington reach the NCAA Tournament. She will be one of nine collegiate players at the camp, along with one professional and 14 high school players.
"Being chosen for this camp is definitely a honor and not something to be taken for granted," said Farrell. "I'm excited to play with a new group of girls who I can learn from and hopefully bring some of that knowledge back with me to UW. I'm hoping to show my strengths this camp, but also learn what I need to improve on for other national team experiences that may be in the future. I can't wait to represent the University of Washington at this camp!"
Griffin played for the U.S. Women's national team from 1987-1991, an honor that Farrell hopes to experience in the coming years. Both will return to Washington after the camp to resume training with the Huskies.
