Huskies Held Scoreless In Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - A goal just before halftime would be the deciding factor in the 2-0 win for Utah over the visiting Washington Huskies in Pac-12 play on Sunday afternoon in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Megan Trabert scored the game-winner in the 37th minute off of a corner kick from McKel Wall and a double assist by Avery Ford. Harley Spier knocked in an insurance goal in the 66th minute after Washington keeper Kari Davidson bobbled the first shot taken by Ford.
The Huskies fall to 8-3-1 and 1-2-0 in Pac-12 play while Utah improves to 7-2-2 and 2-1-0.
Utah started the game aggressive outshooting the UW 11-2 in the first half and 6-0 on goal. The Utes also took five corners while the Huskies had zero.
However, head coach Lesle Gallimore fired her team up at halftime as the Dawgs came blazing out in the second half to take 14 shots in the final 45 minutes and seven on goal. While the UW had several great looks at the net, great defensive play by Lindsey Luke kept the Huskies scoreless.
"We are disappointed," said Gallimore. "We did not start the game well and we paid for it. They (Utah) had multiple chances especially on restarts. They got a header on a cross and put us behind 1-0. With that said, we came out really strong in the second half. We strung things together and should've tied it. We rushed our shots and their keeper came up with good saves. We let the game wear on without putting one away. We tried to muster up something after we went down 2-0 but we have to do better with our chances."
In goal for Washington, Davidson (Portland, Ore.) made nine total saves. Out of the 16 total shots for the UW and seven on goal, juniors Allie Beahan and Lindsay Elston (both from Sammamish, Wash.) had five shots each. Elston took four on frame.
Junior defensive starter Molly Boyd (Seattle, Wash.) hit the crossbar just three minutes into the second half. Freshman Isabel Farrell (Bellevue, Wash.) had two great shots on goal as well.
Washington will return to Seattle to host Arizona Oct. 5 at 3 p.m. on the Pac-12 Networks.
