Trio Of Huskies Score In Shutout

HAMILTON, N.Y. - Junior Allie Beahan scored one of the fastest goals in UW history with the game-winner in the 21st second in Washington's first-ever game at Colgate on Friday night in a 3-0 shutout. The Huskies improve to 2-0 on the season while the Raiders fall to 1-2.
"We are pleased with another win and shutout," said head coach Lesle Gallimore. "We are extremely impressed with the energy and attitude we came out with. I haven't seen that from a Husky team in a while. We scored early and didn't look back."
Beahan (Sammamish, Wash.) was assisted by fifth-year senior Faustine Dufka (San Francisco, Calif.).
Junior Lindsay Elston (Sammamish, Wash.) added to the lead in the 18th minute with her second goal of the season with an assist by freshman Isabel Farrell (Bellevue, Wash.), her second of the year.
UW took a 2-0 lead at halftime and got the third and final goal in the 89th minute. Sophomore Chelsea Archer (Oakland, Calif.) scored her second goal in as many games going one-on-one with the goalie after a pass from junior Annie Sittauer (Everett, Wash.).
Colgate outshot the Huskies by two goals in each half and 16-12 overall. They also led in corner kicks, 5-2. The Raider goalkeeper, Ashley Walsh, made two saves in the game.
Fifth-year senior Kari Davidson (Portland, Ore.) earned her second-straight start in goal, making two saves in the first half. Freshman Megan Kufeld (Fremont, Calif.) made her Husky debut, making four saves in the second half and earning the combined shutout with Davidson.
"Colgate is a good team; hardworking and athletic. When they went down we had to withstand a lot of pressing. Kari and Megan both did a great job combining for the shutout and overall our team played outstanding," Gallimore added.
Off the bench, junior Hillary Zevenbergen (Woodway, Wash.) led the team with three shots, two on goal. Freshman Katey Fawcett (Mission Viejo, Calif.) made her Husky debut in the game.
"We had some quality chances from a variety of players which was fun to watch," Gallimore continued. "We have a quick turnaround to get ready for Syracuse. We broke pressure well and were more composed and played with more rhythm than we did against Seattle U. Our midfield in general was much improved on both sides of the ball."
The Huskies remain in N.Y. to face Syracuse on Sunday at 9 a.m. PT.
