Spring Season Comes To An End

SEATTLE - The Washington men's soccer team finished up its spring schedule last weekend against the Victoria Highlanders in Port Townsend, Wash. The match, played at Peninsula CC, ended in a 0-0 draw.
The Huskies had a chance to go up 1-0 with a goal by red-shirt sophomore Michael Uyehara, but the goal was called back because of an injured player that had stopped the game. UW had other chances throughout the match. Red-shirt senior Abdul Aman had a breakaway and transfer Nate Sackeyfio connected for a few headers. Goalkeepers Ryan Herman and Patric Pray combined for the shutout.
"We've had a hard time scoring goals this spring. It continued in our game versus Victoria. On the positive side, we started creating great opportunities again and looked to be dangerous," said head coach Jamie Clark. "On the other side of the ball, we were great again on Saturday. Throughout the course of the whole spring, we looked very solid at the back and held some very talented attacking teams and players off of the score sheet."
The tough spring schedule helped the team to evaluate their current roster and allow new players to adjust to the Huskies' style of play. "We now have a good idea heading into the fall, what holes we need to fill and what areas we feel really good about," Clark explains. "I'm eager for August to roll around as I think we can be very good [for the upcoming season]."
After the conclusion of the spring season, several Huskies will immediately join their club teams for the rest of the spring and summer. The fall schedule will be announced in a few weeks.
