SEATTLE - A three-run double in the third inning from Seattle University's Doug Kincaid proved to be the key play as the Redhawks edged the Washington baseball team, 4-2, Tuesday night at Husky Ballpark.
Reliever Conor Spink (2-0) pitched three and two-thirds innings of no-hit relief for the win, entering the game in the third. He allowed one walk and fanned two for the Redhawks (7-4). Blaine Jones pitched the ninth to pick up the save, his third.
UW starter Jacob Clem (0-2) took the loss. In his four innings of work, he gave up three runs on four hits. Freshman reliever Tyler Kane struck out four in two innings of relief and sophomore side-armer Adam Cimber worked two perfect frames for Washington.
Washington (2-8) took advantage of a pair of walks in the bottom of the first inning. With two on via bases on balls, sophomore DH Eric Peterson smoked a two-out double off of the third baseman's glove and all the way to the wall in left, driving in Spencer Rogers and Jacob Lamb to stake the UW a 2-0 lead.
Clem retired the first eight Redhawks batters in order before running into trouble with two outs in the third. After back-to-back singles and a hit batter loaded the bases, Kincaid belted a double into the right-field corner, clearing the bases to give the visitors a 3-2 lead.
Washington threatened in the seventh as a pair of walks and a hit batter loaded the bases with one out, but Redhawks reliever Max Whieldon got a double-play groundout to end the inning with the 3-2 lead in tact.
SeattleU's Steve Kirbach added an insurance run in the ninth with a pinch-hit, RBI single.
Washington mounted a two-out rally in the ninth when freshmen Willy Reel and Ryan Wiggins singled to put runners at the corners, but Jones got a strikeout to end it.
The Huskies play host to Dallas Baptist this Thursday through Saturday. Game times are 5:00 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Fans can watch live video, for free, at gohuskies.com.
