SEATTLE - Playing at home for eight matches in a row could get a bit repetitive, so the Husky men's tennis team went outdoors today, playing at Bill Quillian Stadium for the first time this year. Washington (12-4) adapted its game well to the open air, sweeping aside Eastern Washington today, 7-0. This was the fourth consecutive sweep for the Huskies.
After sweeping the doubles point, a seventh consecutive doubles point win, UW cruised through singles play without dropping a set. Freshman Max Manthou was first to completion, as he topped Kyle Koetje, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles. 61st-ranked Sophomore Kyle McMorrow was equally dominant, winning 6-1, 6-0 over Mario Navarro at second singles to make it 3-0.
75th-ranked senior Jeevan Nedunchhezhiyan earned the clinching fourth point with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Fernando Mussolini. From there, the Huskies closed it out with convincing victories from Martin Kildahl at No. 3 singles, Daniel Schmidt at No. 4 singles, and from Marton Bots at fifth singles.
In doubles, Nedunchezhiyan became just the third Husky ever to reach 80 career doubles wins, as he teamed with junior Matt Stith for an 8-4 win over Henninger and Sanchez at second doubles. Nedunchezhiyan is just three wins away from the career doubles record.
Washington will now break for finals week before heading on the road to face Santa Clara on March 22.
