SEATTLE - Washington men's tennis ran its win streak over the Oregon Ducks to 14 in a row tonight with a routine 6-1 victory at the Nordstrom Tennis Center. The 19th-ranked Huskies move to 8-4 on the year while Oregon drops to 8-3. The match will not count towards the Pac-10 standings as the teams will meet again in the regular season finale.
After opening up with a doubles point sweep, the third doubles point in a row for the Huskies, sophomore Kyle McMorrow raced through his No. 2 singles match against Baptiste Faynot without giving up a game, winning 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore Marton Bots put a third UW point up with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles over Duncan MacDonald-Korth.
The clinching point came from senior Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan, who snapped a personal losing skid, albeit against several of the nation's highest-ranked players, with a 6-2, 6-1 win over No. 1 Duck Alex Rovello. Senior Tobi Obenaus chalked up another point with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Aaron Clissold at fifth singles.
"I think we can play better, I really do," said head coach Matt Anger. "At the start of the day you have a match to play and you're only thinking about winning it. Now that it's done and I look back there were a lot of things for us to do better. I thought we started slow in doubles and I was kind of surprised with that coming off the tournament where we progressed each night. The singles was a little up and down, but I was very impressed with Jeevan and Kyle leading the way at the top of the lineup."
The Ducks avoided a shutout with a 6-4, 7-5 win at third singles, with senior Martin Kildahl tripping up against Robin Cambier. But freshman Daniel Schmidt rallied to get the final point, bouncing back from a first set loss to defeat Jose Izquierdo, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4 singles.
The Huskies will be back in the Nordstrom on Sunday afternoon for a 12 noon first serve against 72nd-ranked San Francisco.
