FULLERTON, Calif.- The ninth-ranked Washington softball team (19-6) defeated Texas A&M, 5-0 this evening at the Kia Klassic. The Huskies strung 11 hits together while UW hurlers Tia Bollinger and Ashley Boek combined for Washington's 10 shutout of the season.

The Huskies got out to a quick start, scoring one run in the first inning. Aimee Minor and Sarah Hyatt hit back-to-back singles. Dena Tyson then hit a single into left field to score Minor. The hit would eventually be the game-winner as Tyson drove in her second game-winning run of the day.

Washington pushed its lead to 2-0 in the second frame on two hits. Kathy Fiske smacked a double down the left field line and was replaced by pinch runner Jamie Rau. Courtney Jeffries then singled up the middle to move Rau to third. Dominique Lastrapes followed with a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score Rau and give the Huskies the two run cushion.

UW scored two more runs in the fourth inning, sparked by a leadoff single and stolen base by Amanda Oleson. Fiske followed with a walk and the runners advanced to second and third on a Jeffries ground out. Minor then hit an infield single to score Oleson and an error by the Aggie's shortstop plated Fiske.

Washington scored its fifth and final run in the fifth inning when Rivera led off with her 10th home run of the season. The shot to right centerfield marks the 51st of Rivera's career.

Bollinger (9-3) picked up the victory after holding Texas A&M to one hit over three innings, while fanning four. Boek pitched four innings of relief for the Dawgs, striking out six.

The Huskies continue play at the Kia Klassic tomorrow when UW takes on Princeton at 10 a.m. The bracket portion of the tournament will begin Friday afternoon.
