SEATTLE (AP) - Bobby Jones scored 18 points, all in the first half, and Tre Simmons added 15, leading the Washington Huskies to a 88-51 victory over Columbia Tuesday night.
The Huskies (5-3), facing the Ivy League Lions from New York for the first time since 1949, got 13 points from Brandon Roy and 11 from Curtis Allen. Hakeem Rollins had nine rebounds for Washington, which outrebounded Columbia 37-28.
Dodson Worthington led Columbia with 12 points.
The Huskies were ahead 58-21 at halftime, with Jones leading the way on 6-for-8 shooting and Allen scoring 11 on 3-for-6. The 58 points was the most in a half by Washington since it had 59 the first half against Portland State Nov. 28, 2000.
Roy hit a 14-footer from the wing and Will Conroy made a 3-pointer in the first 2:10 before Worthington sank two free throws with 3:13 gone. Then the Huskies outscored the Lions 19-2 to take a 21-4 lead with 6:42 gone.
Columbia (3-7) didn't get its first basket and first official shot until 4:38 was gone when Dragutin Kravic made a layup. The Lions shot 6-for-23 in the opening half.
The closest Columbia got in the second half was 60-27 after a layup by Matt Preston with 3:39 gone.
Washington will open its Pac-10 season in the Bay Area this week. The Huskies are at California on Friday and at Stanford on Sunday.
First-year coach Joe Jones, who got the Columbia job after six seasons as an assistant at Villanova, inherited a program that went 2-25, including 0-14 in the Ivy League, last season.
