Huskies Fall To Billikens

SEATTLE (AP) - Maurice Jeffers matched a career-high 18 points as he led St. Louis to a 69-61 victory over the Washington Huskies on Tuesday night.
Jeffers, the Billikens' leading scorer with a 12-point average, hit just 4-of-11 from the field, but made 10-of-11 from the free throw line.
Chris Heinrich scored 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for St. Louis, (5-1). It was the first double-double by any St. Louis player this season.
Washington (3-3) trailed by as many as 13 points, 62-49, when Jeffers hit his final two free throws with three minutes remaining in the game.
St. Louis outscored Washington by 15 points from the free-throw line.
Will Perkins led the Huskies with 15 points after being held to just two points in the first half. Greg Clark added 11 for Washington, which shot 35 percent from the field.
It was the first time St. Louis had played at Washington since the 1954-55 season. The all-time series is now tied at six victories apiece.
Clark scored seven points in the first 2:45 as the Huskies jumped out to a quick 9-4 advantage. Washington's shots didn't fall over the final seven minutes of the first half, and the Billikens turned a 19-15 deficit to a 30-22 halftime lead.
The Huskies' only points during a 15-3 St. Louis first-half run came from a Thalo Green three-pointer with 5:40 left in the half. Green's shot snapped a run of three consecutive field goals from Matt Baniak, who finished with 16 points.
