SEATTLE -- Junior Theresa Wagner broke a scoreless tie on a goal with 1:10 remaining in the final overtime on Sunday, lifting the Washington women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Oregon in front of 2,279 spectators at Husky Soccer Field.
Washington improved its Pacific-10 Conference record to 3-1-1 with a 6-7-1 overall mark. The Ducks dropped to 2-3 in Pac-10 play, 6-9 overall.
Sophomore Caroline Putz set up the lone goal, dribbling the ball toward the Oregon goal line before passing back to Wagner who was set up 15 yards in front of the goalmouth. Wagner, a product of Seattle's Lakeside High School, booted the ball into the upper-left corner of the goal at 118:50.
The sudden-death goal ended the game during the second 15-minute overtime session after the teams had battled through 90 scoreless minutes of regulation.
Junior goalkeeper Leslie Weeks made five saves to record her second shutout. Amanda Fox registered nine saves for Oregon which was outshot 26-13.
The Ducks controlled the run of play early and outshot Washington 7-6 in the first half. The Huskies dominated the rest of the game, keeping constant pressure on the Oregon goal while totaling a 20-6 shot advantage after halftime. Washington has won all four of its all-time meetings with the Ducks.
The Huskies had the best scoring opportunity during regulation, but senior Anna Biddle's shot in the 59th minute caromed off the crossbar.
Washington returns to action at Husky Soccer Field against Arizona State on Friday, Oct. 29 at 2 p.m.
