UW Women's Rowing Virtual Tour
Part 3: The Legacy of Conibear Shellhouse
I knew when I stepped in this place that I was joining something bigger than myself."
- Head Men's Coach Michael Callahan
More than a century old, Washington's rowing program has established an unparalleled tradition in Seattle and in the Pacific Northwest. "Row Town USA" embraces the Husky team like no other, thanks to the deep-seated history of the sport in Seattle. The plethora of lakes, rivers and canals in the Puget Sound region, which house a huge number of youth, collegiate and masters rowing organizations, have made Seattle a nurturing home to the sport. From “The Boys in the Boat” to the powerful Husky programs of today, Washington rowers continue to play their part in adding to the tradition of success that thousands of their predecessors have built.
