UW Paired With Oregon In First Round Of Pac-10 Championships

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Pac-10 Women's Golf Championships begin this Sunday at Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz. and coach Mary Lou Mulflur's squad is heading to the desert with revenge on their minds.
Washington's last time out came at the very same golf course that this week's conference championships will be decided and the Huskies still have a bitter taste in their mouths from that trip. The Huskies finished 16th out of 17 teams in that tournament and are hoping that a clean slate will lead to a better outcome.
The task ahead for the Huskies is a tall one though, as four Pac-10 teams are ranked among the nation's top-10. But Mulflur is confident her squad has turned the page and up to the challenge that they will face in the tournament which runs Sunday through Tuesday.
"It's a great field," said Mulflur, "so we really feel like we are going to need to play well. But, we are looking forward to getting our revenge."
If the Huskies are to succeed, a lot will depend on the play of their senior leader Anya Alvarez. She has been the Huskies top finisher in four-straight events and has notched four top-10 finishes this season.
"Anya is our leader right now. She is playing really well. She played good, solid golf at Arizona State last time out. It is good to see her finally come into her own as we head to post-season," said Mulflur.
Joining Alvarez in the Husky lineup at the par-72, 6,230-yard home course of the Sun Devils will be juniors Darcie Richmond and Sadena Parks and freshmen Kelli Bowers and A Ram Choi.
The Huskies will be paired with Oregon in Sunday's first round and they will tee off from the 10th hole starting at 7:20 a.m. PT.
